Week Three: Luis Manuel Alcantara The night before the 236th celebration of the 4th of July in the US, Alcantara placed a version of the Statue of Liberty on the Malecon (shore walk in Havana facing the US). Made of drift wood and other recycled materials, the statue was a gift offering from the people of Cuba to the United States. The same day, Alcantara applied with this work for an exhibition opportunity in the US, ultimately without success.
